Still looking to make this year easier on myself I had to do a lot of planning and unplanning, knowing we would be adding a baby into the mix with us this year. Since last year we fell short of completing my goal in US Geography I decided to hold off on starting a science or health curriculum at the beginning of the year and instead concentrate solely on Geography. I will reevaluate this plan once we are farther along in the year and how well we adjust to having a baby into the mix of our home school day. So, for Geography we will be continuing to use the books we used last year: Geography of the 50 States, 50 States Under God for Young Learners, and Fifty States Under God. We will also be throwing in Wisconsin State History when we reach it in our studies. This will also continue to be paired with part of our copy work from Exploring Handwriting Through US Geography.
For bible, this year I am taking a new approach, and if all goes well this will be our bible plan for the next three years. I am taking the series from Answer’s in Genesis The Answers for Kids, by Ken Ham with Cindy Malott. This year our goal is to get through Volume One and Two.
For our Supplemental Saturdays I plan on continuing to use the Evan Moore: How to Teach Art to Children book. I also plan into add in artist studies as we are dealing with recreating a lot of art from different artists in history. We will also continue to use Sign Language for Everyone DVD Series, and my plan for that is to pace it out as we go along, since it is hard to plan and prepare for not knowing how soon each new concept will catch on. New to the lineup is our music study. I have chosen to use SQUILT Music, and study music through the era’s along with composer studies in between. I will most likely pick back up our other music study next year, as we were about to head into learning to play the recorder, and I wasn’t sure how well that would go with adding a baby into the mix of things. I am also going to throw in poetry reading during our Supplemental Saturdays as well. I am going to take the poetry assigned each week or so from the girls Sonlight Cores, and then read them all together on Saturdays. I haven’t been a fan of the random one-day poetry and would rather read several at once and this seemed a good place to fit it in.
I hope you find these resources helpful in making your own curriculum choices. On Wednesday I will be releasing Mouses 5th Grade curriculum choices for the 2021 school year, and then will release Thumper’s First grade choices on Friday. Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook or Instagram to see more of our daily home school activities.
