If you read the previous post (Second Quarter 2021 Together Wrap-Up), then you know we have been on the move traveling in the never-ending month of June. Mouse is marching right along through American history year 2. Even though I had to double up a few days on history reading, and we are a day or two shy of meeting our goals this quarter for read alouds, we are still on track. This quarter we have studied America and the Land of Promise with its innovations and advancements right on through World War 1 and ended the quarter as America is coming out of the Great Depression with FDR. In our read alouds together, we have read The Great Wheel, Old Yeller, Little Britches and we are midway through Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry.
In math, Mouse has finished up with learning about single-digit division. She has also studied the averages, area of a trapezoid, thousands, millions, billions, and trillions place value notation. We finished the quarter learning about division with a single-digit remainder.
This quarter, Mouse has read about the lives of Helen Keller, Eleanor Roosevelt, The Wright Brothers, and George Washington Carver. She has read the American Girl Books Samantha and Rebecca and will read Kit soon. She has also enjoyed reading Hero Over Here and All of a Kind Family.
She started All About Spelling Level 5 this quarter, and we have made it to Step 7 as of this last week.
In writing, we are up to Lesson 7, Unit 3 in Writing Naratives for IEW. The writing process with IEW has allowed Mouse’s brain to comprehend the process so much better. She loves that she can be creative but also have a structure to follow using this program. We have reached Week 16 for Fix-It Grammar: Robin Hood. She has learned a few things about sentence openers, commas with adjectives, and Adverb Clauses.
The short week we were home before traveling again, Mouse lost another tooth, rather comically. She realized it was loose, and her Dad told her to pull it, and out it came. She is also stepping into some responsibility here at home and mowing the lawn for us this summer.
