We started our school year in Wisconsin as we welcomed Bird into our family and waited to get her first shots before we joined Daddy-O on the road this year. We are wrapping up our first quarter now though in North Carolina area again. We took a stop in Indiana for a little over a week mid-March and celebrated Thumper’s birthday with our friends and their son who shares a birthday with her.
This year we started reading The Chronicles of Narnia, at the end of our quarter we have just begun book four The Silver Chair. The girls have watched the movies before, but I have never seen them, nor have I ever read the books. I am enjoying reading these aloud to the girls and learning the story myself for the first time.
With the addition of Bird to our daily lives, I felt the need to drop a few things this year. We dropped science as I could not quite nail down a curriculum I wanted to use. So, giving me to time to research and lighten our load I decided to drop it and just continue doing our Geography work instead, which should allow for us to get through all the 50 states this year, as well as a state study on Wisconsin. We are studying the sates as they entered the union and so far, this year, we have studied states 14-24.
Unfortunately, Supplemental Saturdays have not been able to happen as much as I have wanted to. We were able to do a project for Valentine’s Day. We also studied Edgar Degas’ Ballerinas and Faith Ringgold’s Tar Beach. We have only reviewed ASL during this time and we have not started our intended study of music. Now that we are settled into our space in North Carolina we will be able to focus more on these, especially since Daddy-o has been working seven days a week, and there still is not much available for us to do.
Next quarter I am looking forward to enhancing our routine as Bird grows and we are able to get a little more done in the day. While schooling with a newborn has been a different adjustment for us, I am happy we are still mostly getting all of our things done I have set out for us for our goals this year.
